According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Philadelphia Flyers are among three teams that have expressed interest in goaltender Ray Emery. Emery spent the 2009-2010 season with the Flyers but his season ended due to a horrible hip injury. He had surgery and is now ready to attempt an NHL comeback. The Anahiem Ducks are one of the other teams that is interested in the former Flyer netminder.
The Flyers obviously already have Sergei Bobrovsky and Brian Boucher under contract this season. One of the goalies would have to go if Emery were to be signed. They could potentially trade Boucher who may not be back with the orange and black next season. I liked what Emery did last year and really thought he was playing at a high level prior to the horrific hip injury. If he proves that he is healthy and can play, I wouldn’t be opposed to give the Razor a shot to be the starter. It’s not a knock on Bobrovsky. He has had a great season so far but I would love to see an open competition between the two. It’s certainly something to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks with the trade deadline fast approaching.
