A Flyers Win: Big Ville Style

Just as Ville Leino broke a 1-1 tie with 13:05 left in the third period, Joel Ward struck right back desposited a Predator rebound past Sergei Bobrovsky to knot the game up at 2. A Shea Weber drive ricoheted off Martin Erat’s skate and Joel Ward found the puck and wristed it past Bobrovsky to tie the game. But Leino wasn’t done on this night. Leino scored once again on a beautiful spinaroma backhander that beat Anders Lindback upstairs to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead with 3:14 remaining. They able to run out the clock and play solid defense to alter any Predator scoring chances.

The game didn’t get off to the same start as Tuesday’s contest for the Flyers and they would surely consider that a moral victory. The Flyers grabbed the lead when forward Jeff Carter lit the lamp on an absolute laser past Predators goaltender Anders Lindback. That lead was short-lived. The Predators’ Marcel Goc tied the game just over a minute later on a bouncing rebound off a Colin Frasor shot. Leino had two goals in the third periods that propelled the Flyers to the 3-2 win at home. The first goal came as Leino dug away and desposited the Jeff Carter rebound in the back of the net to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining in the third period.

This was a great bounceback game for the Flyers. The Lightning game was just one of those games that teams want to forget. The Flyers clearly did that tonight and came out with a great effort tonight and were able to get a win against a good Western conference team. It was great to see Leino step up and lead the Flyers to victory. He is definitely making the case for the team to resign him as he is a unrestricted free agent after this season. Carter also had a good game as he contributed a goal and an assist. He also seemed to be around the puck at all times during his shifts. This is a game that the Flyers can build on and was a great game for Bobrovsky as well. The Russian netminder had 26 saves on 28 shots in tonight’s contest. The Flyer will face the Dallas Stars on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
