Rejoice Sixers fans. They made the right selection. Evan Turner has been chosen to be the savior of the franchise. Turner was the player that every Sixers fan wanted. He had won every conceivable college basketball player of the year this past season. He averaged 20.4 points, six assists, and 9.2 rebounds during his junior season at Ohio State. He does it all. He can penetrate to the basket. He can dish the ball out with the best of them. Turner can also rebound the basketball. Complete basketball players like this don’t come around every day. That’s why this was such an important draft pick for the Sixers.
The trading of Samuel Dalembert to the Sacramento Kings was an intriguing move. Many people thought that this could open the door for the Sixers to draft Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins. But the Sixers never wavered and selected Turner. Turner will now team up with Jrue Holiday to comprise a very young and talented backcourt. The Sixers have now solidified their backcourt for the next 10 years. The Sixers could be knocked for not picking one of the big men. But I’m confident with rolling the dice with Spencer Hawes for a few years. Hawes is a big center and he can shoot very well for a big man. Something that Dalembert was never able to do. The selection of Evan Turner brings some excitement to the Sixers for the first time in a long time. I for one can’t wait to see Turner light it up down at the Wachoiva Center.
