Attention Phillies fans: your Phillies have arrived. The Phillies offense was out in full force at Citizens Bank Park tonight. They defeated the Twins 9-5 with an impressive showing. Joe Blanton finally had a good outing. Blanton went six innings. He gave up three runs on seven hits.
The Phillies offense began the scoring right off the bat. Shane Victorino led off the game with a walk then stole 2nd base. Polanco grounded out to move Victorino to 3rd base. Chase Utley singled to drive in Victorino. Howard followed it with an RBI triple then Jayson Werth finished it off with a sacrifice fly. The Phillies had a 3-0 lead after one inning.
In the 2nd inning, Placido Polanco had an RBI single to score Wilson Valdez. Chase Utley proved that his knee is just fine. He hit a home run to right field to score Victorino and Polanco.
Ryan Howard also had a very strong performance. Howard was a single shy of the cycle. He hit two solo home runs. Howard finally displayed some power numbers. He has been hitting for average this season, even with the Phillies struggling these last few weeks.
The Twins got a few runs in the later innings. Reliever Scott Mathieson saw his first major league action in four years. He gave up two runs on three hits in only 0.2 innings. It forced Brad Lidge to come on to get the final out. The Phillies got back to their winning ways finally and have a three game winning streak. I think it’s safe to say that our Phillies are back!
