The offense just hasn’t been there lately. Since the Phillies scored 12 runs on the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday night, they haven’t been able to muster many runs. Roy Halladay pitched a complete game and only gave up two runs on Tuesday night. Jamie Moyer did very much of the same tonight against the Chicago Cubs. Moyer pitched seven innings and only gave up two runs on four hits. He also added seven strikeouts and only walked one batter. Moyer has pitched well after a rocky start this season. He just got no run support tonight.
The Phillies could only manage three hits off Cubs starter Tom Gorzelanny. They had five hits for the entire game. The Phillies did manage a late run off Cubs reliever John Grabow. Ryan Howard grounded out to score Placido Polanco for the Phillies only run. Chad Durbin gave up two more runs in the 9th inning to put the final score at 4-1. The Phillies had the tying run come to the plate in the 9th inning, but couldn’t muster any runs.
The Phillies face the Chicago Cubs again tomorrow at 1:05 PM.
