Jamie Moyer got roughed up early. But the Phillies still had plenty of offense to make a comeback. Moyer gave up two home runs early in the game. He surrendered a three-run home run to David Wright in the 1st inning and also a two-run home run to Phillie killer Rod Barajas in the 4th inning. But in the bottom of the same inning, Johan Santana has roughed up by the Phillies lineup. Santana loaded the bases for Jamie Moyer. All Santana had to do was get Moyer out. He ended up walking Moyer, which walked in a run. Shane Victorino followed it up with a monster grand slam off Santana. Chase Utley added a two-run home run to put a stamp on the rout. In all, Santana gave up 10 runs on 8 hits in only 3.2 innings. The Phillies won the game 11-5 to take two out of three games in the series.
However, Jamie Moyer struggled once again. Moyer went 6.o innings and gave up five runs. He fell behind early with the home run to David Wright. I’m just not sure that Moyer even has what it takes to compete in the majors anymore. Moyer always is good for one inning when he gets roughed up. The Phillies offense isn’t going to be there every time to bail him out. He really needs to step his game up if he wants to have success this season. He can’t expect to hit the corners and get the calls from all the umpires. Good thing for the Phillies that this is the last year of Moyer’s contract.
