The Phillies haven’t been scoring many runs lately. Well, that certainly changed on Thursday night. The Phillies jumped out on right-hander Derek Lowe early. Ryan Howard hit an RBI single to score Greg Dobbs in the 1st inning. Jayson Werth also added a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. The lineup stretch the lead out to 5-0 with everyone hitting and contributing. However in the 5th inning, the Phillies surrendered two runs on two rare throwing errors by Chase Utley. This allowed the Braves to make it a 5-2 game. That was the closest that they would get though. The Phillies added a few insurance runs through the late innings and defeated the Braves 8-3.
Jamie Moyer pitched very well for the Phillies. He gave up two runs on four hits, however both runs were unearned. He also added four strikeouts. It’s great to see Moyer have a solid outing against a good hitting lineup. If the Phillies are going to be a great team this year, Moyer is going to have to step up and pitch like this more often. Especially wit the news the Phillies received before the game. J.A. Happ was placed on the disabled list. The Phillies don’t thinnk it will be for more than a few weeks, which is good news. They did activate JC Romero off the disabled list. He is now available to pitch. They also announced that Nelson Figueroa will start Saturday.
