The Phillies defeated the New York Yankees 9-7 in dramatic fashion on Monday. Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes got the first two batters in the inning out. Greg Dobbs came up and hit a double to right field. Wilson Valdez followed with a two-run walk off home run to left field to win the game for the Phillies. Placido Polanco had a two-run home run and backup catcher Dane Sardinha had a home run and 4 RBIs in the victory.
Cole Hamels had a very difficult outing. Hamels surrendered seven runs on nine hits in four innings of work. It was the first terrible outing for Hamels. He has been hard at work trying to add that 4th pitch. I really don’t put too much stock into this outing. Hamels is just working on his location and is trying to improve before the regular season begins. Hamels has been very good for the most part this spring. I think Hamels is in line for a great 2010 campaign and Phillies fans should be very excited about his potential.
